Young Men Celebrate the Emergency First Responder Heroes in Lincoln County, Tennessee

The Boy Scouts of America Troop 489 worked for months preparing their plan to find a way to honor their area emergency first responder heroes, and came up with a terrific idea to host a dinner for the heroes, their families and friends. On a beautiful Friday night, April 21, 2017, at The Lodge at Gunter Hollow a heartfelt community convened to show their support and say thanks to their local heroes.

The event had a patriotic opening included color guard and a flag salute with The Pledge of Allegiance, The National Anthem was sung, they stated the Boy Scout’s oath and the Boy Scout’s law, and shared an opening prayer – all lead by the young men in Troop 489.

Scoutmaster, Truman Carroll, then stood to share words of gratitude to the guests of honor, and then simply watched the event unfold: “the fellowship was so encouraging, everyone had an awesome time, and the boys of Troop 489 and their neighboring Troop 357 served the food and drinks to each guest personally, and not one drink spilled and they tried their best to keep their thumbs out of the mashed potatoes!”

“During the dinner a few beepers went off – those folks were on-call had to quickly get up and go serve which is a true indication on what this is all about – it was great to have the boys see that happen.” Truman followed that by saying “the boys had a true sense of accomplishment with real-life responsibilities to plan, host and serve each guest personally. They did an outstanding job. Please tell Chris Keith how great it was and the first responders, their spouses, and in some cases their families – all had a ball. The scouts were amazing, All-in-all, it was a wonderful night made in large part by your kind sponsorship!”

“These community heroes are the folks first on the scene after an accident. They are incredibly responsive, work diligently keeping us alive and safe, and we want to be involved in helping to show our thanks to their hard work and dedication to our communities.” Says Chris Keith, Partner at Wettermark Keith, LLC. “This local event is the perfect way for us to continue to be involved, along with our First Responder of the Month program with our television station partners at WZDX in Huntsville, also with local stations in Montgomery and Birmingham, AL, and Chattanooga, TN, where community members can nominate their heroes.”

Thank You, Heroes!
